This is true...we tried capturing one last night and it never showed. But they shoudl have fixed those skills/bosses - not nerfed the whole capturing system. It's not nearly as fun nor does it feel nearly as rewarding now.

Can it have a hood? Hood + Ranger mask = Sweet. Then again, it wouldn't show my character's long lustrous locks that way, heheh.
Great patch, Gaile. Just don't make us wait too long when it comes fixing Markis so we can get Barrage from him without the mission ending.

No complaints here Anet. I'm liking it.

That is exactly what I did (even with the props for the devs afterwards )

I'm very happy with this. The soc system was broken from the start but this is probably one of the better ways it could be without redoing it completely.
I remember I gave up trying to get elites when it took me nearly an hour to acquire the relatively easy healing hands (in terms of time to reach spawns) to wait for something like this and I'm not disappointed. 2 hours, maybe slightly more, and I have 10 more elites. It's not like the old system involved skill either. Capturing stuff like escape, just pure luck via soc spam and pray, and that's only if you know that stances aren't shown. Otherwise you would sit there and wonder why he isn't using it ever. Meaningless work is gone; while there is still some work, it's much more manageable and not repetitive.

quick question.
just how many people is mad or pissed off about this new patch where there is a rune trader (some claim that ruin the part where other player can sell runes at a CRAZY price... 5k or even 10k) and the capture skills, i mean, come on guys, your playing a game that SHOULD have monthly fee on it, you should be glad that A-net didn't want to be a WoW or a EverCrack clone and make you pay to play and than pissed you off with the patch..
can't we all just get along and play something...sshh

I'm at a bit of a loss with this patch. There are many good things implemented that are quite important. But the SoC system to get it off a dead boss? That's not really 'capturing' now is it? That doesn't take the grind out of the game, it takes the fun out of it
The rune trader aswell. I have nothing against it, but it'd be nice if it were implemented as such that they only sold the runes you had unlocked. It'd save having to grind for the rune you want for your build if you already have it, and it'd also keep the game fun to play by not making things too easy and less rewarding.
There is a line between removing grind and removing sense of accomplishment and this patch has just stepped over it

I quite like this patch. Its not so much that the exact things they're adding are epecially useful (they're just scratching the surface with this one really), but that it shows me anet are starting to take things in a better direction. They're doing things that are helping those of us who want to unlock as much as we can as fast as possible, as to get into PvP ASAP. They've also addressed little annoyances (the floating henchie glitch for example) that i thought were being ignored for some strange reason.
Hopefully more of the same sort of thing will be coming our way soon.

There is no challenge to this game now. What would have taken people weeks, or months to build up the perfect PVP character would take them days now. Why not just remove PVE completely if you want to make it so damn easy. Just because 80% of the players are slow, it doesnt mean you have to make a update in favour of them. You'll always find a higher ratio for slower, less competent players to higher, skilled players in ANY game.

you know what.. i bet the next patch, A-net might either remove all the benefits for newbie people or just give bunch more stuff and make a level 8 character to be strong enough to kill off a level 20...
so for the next patch, anything goes!!

Good; now I'll be surprised by what they change (I mean like "omg-shit-my-pants" surprised, not the normal "wow-nice-update-woah-beer" reaction)

I'm confused.
How is hoping that your continuous soc spam will net you your elite stance while you frantically beg your pug to not kill the boss fun? I mean honestly...

I don't play Wow (a disgusting accusation ), but I did play RTS games exclusively for awhile (including Warcraft 3 and the expansion). So, yes, my avatar is from Warcraft 3 (I enjoyed that game thouroughly)
And it's not a "weird purple dude", just a "generic elf dude who will nibble your bum"

i don't understand why we can't capture while the boss is alive as well. what if we just want to cap and leave? some bosses, especially the monk ones, are annoying to kill. sure i can kill them, but i'll be nice if I can just cap and leave and go pvp.

I was hoping at first the old system remained in place as well. Now, I hope they add the old system in addition to the new system of capturing skills.

You can obtain Barrage from Snyk the Hundred Tongue in Abaddon's Mouth.

You sound like someone who doesn't like putting effort into things. Seriously, the reason I don't like this patch is because it takes the effort out of doing things. Skill requires effort to improve. The whiners are just getting everything handed to them on a silver platter now.
I don't endorse or practice farming, in fact, I don't care about it. But the reason people farm is not so much of trying to be uber in pvp or getting 50 billion gold for it, it's to get the reward of fulfillment.
I can think of nothing more enjoyable then going through all the exaughstion and effort to keep the boss alive while trying to stay alive as a team while one of you captures the skill and once they've got it to finish the boss off. It's like a huge payoff, a great reward for the effort you put into things.
The game is advertised as player rewarded for skill, not time played. This is a bit of an oxymoron as skill is developed with effort, effort into practicing, practicing requires time.
As I was saying in another post yesterday completely unrelated to this topic, the payoff in games is not having the best items/weapons/stats, it's getting them. It seems to me a lot of people have forgotton that. Or maybe the definition of gamers have changed, maybe I'm holding on to the past. Gamers these days don't seem to want to play for fun, they seem to want to play to have everything.
This patch doesn't ruin the game entirely, but if each patch keeps heading in this direction, I'm afraid it's going to be put away somewhere never to be laid eyes apon again. This is the last thing I want to do as it is such a great game and still has so much more potential. I fear that Anet is taking it in the wrong direction, away from this potential.
